I am interested in putting together an unconference following the openspace format. Wanna play? (By play, I mean come, or help create it, or ???)

So far, in my mind, it looks like this:

HUMAN::CONTACT unconference

for exploring technologies of compassion

The topic I’d like to focus on is “technologies of compassion”. That is, ways humans have discovered to live in compassion, and support creativity, collaboration, and community. (If it turns out to be too weird a phrase, we could change it.)

I hope to attract people from mystics to entrepreneurs, coaches, and — I suppose it’s obvious — I have a soft spot for software developers. Basically, anyone who makes love central to how they live life. The idea is to contribute from your own practice, and also to come with curiosity about less familiar practices.

Topics that might come up include

  • Yoga / meditation
  • Nonviolent communcation
  • Your spiritual practice
  • Unschooling
  • Scrum / Agile approaches to business
  • Focusing
  • The Work
  • …your practice here.

If this sounds appealing to you, I’d love to collaborate. So far, I’m imagining these things.

  • It’s free
  • It’s in Columbus, if I’m planning
  • It’s on a weekend

That’s all I got. What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea to me. I’d love to come if it’s on an open weekend for me. What kind of lead time are you thinking of? (My free weekends are Jan 8, 22, Feb 5, 19, Mar 5, 19 Alternating, if you need to extrapolate further.)

I want to be in the loop on this event just in case it happens in March when I make my annual trip to the midwest.

  3. Mair Alight says:

Oh! Angela! I’m UNinterested (my joke)
I’d love it if it were when I’m “back
there”, which I think will be end March
    2011 or in April sometime…
There’s a Common Bond Institute event
April 8-10 in Dearborn, Michigan, and
I’m hoping to be offering NVC in
    Nashville and Carbondale in April.
I’d like to figure out a way to live
life from conference to um, unconference
:-) with living life in between. :-)

  4. Ronnie Hausheer says:

Maybe, if it’s in June or July. Otherwise, I’m in South America. Keep me posted, please. Sounds like a great event.

  5. John Abbe says:

Love the idea/description! If I were to participate, April or later would make this more likely. Maybe I’ll finally hitchhike x-country. Regardless, I appreciate the seeds you are sowing.

  6. Peter says:

Carol Howard Merritt and her husband Brian Merritt put on an unconference too, it is a great idea and frees one from the confines of conference thinking.

Wild Goose is looking pretty cool too – http://www.wildgoosefestival.org/
